SPENDING TIME WITH YOUR CHILD

According to Dr. Anthony P. Witham “children spell love…T-I-M-E.” unfortunately, time is what most parents always wish they had. When we are stuck in traffic, engaged with house chores, trips, business appointments etc you hear parents say ” i wish i can have more time”. Not having time doesn’t mean we don’t love our children. It is having that moment to show them how important they are in our lives that is the challenge.

Quality time is required for our children’s development and happiness. It helps us as parent to know and build a bond with our child. Children sometimes feel they are not wanted or important to their parent because either parents or both are hardly around to give them attention, help them with their home work, play their favorite games together, go to movies, sing favorite poem , to read bed time stories etc.

We must understand how valuable our presence is to our kids and find ways to slow down and create some memorable time that will let our children know that we love and care for them.If you are the type of parent who is always extremely  busy to make out time for your kids, it is time to embrace a change for a better tomorrow.

Children crave time with parents because it makes them feel special. To be responsible as parents can be difficult in this age because of the time we spend in working to be able to provide the basic needs of life. Ability to create a balance between our cooperate life and parenthood responsibility could be frustrating on one part as a parent.

We should learn to spend quality time with our children because spending time together helps us to know their experiences, thoughts, feelings, changing interest, dreams etc. Some parents get extremely too busy with work, business, activities and other engagement forgetting the responsibilities they owe their children.

I know of a parent who schedules her office time out “annual leave”  the same time her children are going on holidays in other to spend quality time with them.

Being responsible doesn’t end with providing basic needs of life, It beings there when it matters most.
