Immense growth and development in all areas – physical, cognitive, and language during the toddler years. It is natural for a toddler to get upset and cry about little things because they can’t find the right words to express how they feel. Toddlers are very concerned with their own needs and ideas that’s why it is difficult for them to share, they always want to have their way. They do not understand logic, they find it difficult to wait and to have self-control.

At this stage their eagerness to be independent is high and they also develop a self image thou  they can’t clearly express their needs and they also have trouble dealing with limits/restrictions/difficulty in sharing/claiming possession(mine). When we sometimes adopt compromise and disappointment can lead to tantrums and misbehavior.

Tantrums and other behavioral issues (hitting, biting, screaming etc) are accustomed to toddlers. Parents often lose balance here, out of annoyance they tend to be harsh by spanking the child, shouting or punishing the child. I experienced a mother beating a living day out of her toddler. I was speechless. I know some toddlers can push us to the wall. When we understand how a toddler is wired it will help us relate better with them and to appreciate them for who they are. We can help them improve when we display thought of affections, attention, care with hugs and kisses.

Praises can motivate our toddlers to follow the rules. Consequences or punishment should be minimal because children exhibit non-compliant behavior through out their life. When dealing with a toddler we have to be careful not to destroy their self image and confidence.

A  2-4 year old toddler wants what they want when they want it. That is why you may hear things like “no” and “me do it” ” i don’t want” and “no diaper change!” more often. They move around more often with the awareness of themselves and their surroundings.   I heard a mother complained that her toddler cant sit put in one place. That is one major problem she has with her. Well, I have to say That it is part of what makes a toddler, “a toddler”. They like to communicate their likes and dislikes, and to act independently (as much as they can!) And they take active interest exploring something new like
recognize themselves in pictures as well as mirror, imitate older ones or an adult.

My son can repeat anything you say without missing it which makes us more careful around him with words. They should also be able to say names of familiar faces etc. We shouldn’t forget that child development varies in each child, so lets learn to give our child all the time they need to grow.

Toddlers are realizing that they are separate individuals from their parents yet u can’t separate them from their parents. This attachment helps them in developing the language skills that help them express their ideas, wants, and needs.
